1 Voile Yarn
Specially hard-twisted yarn for making voile fabrics. Single 50's and 2/100's are usual counts, although other counts are spun. Two-fold voile yarns are usually doubled twist-on-twist, e.g., the two-fold twisting is in the same direction as the twist in the singles. Standard twist 38 turns per inch. -
2 Voile Fabrics
Very light open plain weave dress fabrics. The best qualities of voile are made with fine, very hard twisted two-fold combed and gassed cotton yarns. Gassing is done to remove all projecting loose fibres and make the yarn surface as clear as possible. It is a distinctive feature of good voile fabrics that warp ends and weft picks should appear singly in the cloth, that is, with a tiny space between adjacent threads. They are woven one end in a dent. Plain voiles are produced white, piece-dyed in self colours, and printed in huge quantities mostly in dainty colourings and very attractive designs. Various fancy stripes and checks are made with voile ground texture. Standard makes of plain cotton voiles are as follows: - * Combed and gassed Sakel. 38 turns per inch ** Combed Sakel. 38 turns per inch *** Combed and gassed Sakel. 46 turns per inch. -

4 Grenadine
This is a dress material with an open gauze weave. Made from hard-twisted yarns; cotton, silk and wool are made use of in the many qualities on the market. Yarns are dyed and of many colours. Stripes and checks are formed by cramming, and open spaces by leaving dents empty. The weft in the cotton variety is polished yarn, dyed black. The warp is hard-twisted voile yarn, 2/40's, 2/80's, or 2/100's. This cloth is also known as Black Lenos." The example illustrated is a good style of this cloth made from 32's polished weft. The open work is obtained by empty dents, with gauze or leno at each side of the stripes to keep them together. Silk and coloured cotton is used to add extra ornament. -

7 Twist On Twist
Two-fold yarn in which the twist is in the same direction as the twist in the single yarns. Such yarn has more elasticity than if reverse twist were used. Twist on twist increases the turns per inch in the single threads, thus giving a harder folded yarn. This method of twisting is usual for voile and sewing yarns.
